Last Seen – The largest unsolved art heist in history

WBUR and The Boston Globe have come together to explore the largest art heist in history and why 13 irreplaceable art works stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston have still not been recovered after 28 years.

Last Seen, a new true-crime podcast, delves into the questions of how, despite a $10 million reward for recovery, not one single piece has resurfaced? The haul taken from the museum on the night of March 18, 1990, and estimated to be worth half a billion dollars, included three works by Rembrandt, five works by Degas, one by Vermeer, one by Manet, one by Govaert Flinck, a Shang dynasty bronze beaker, and a French bronze eagle finial.

On that night, the thieves remained in the museum for 81 minutes, an extremely long time to hang around, and have still not been caught.

According to the website, “With first-ever interviews, unprecedented access and over a year of investigative reporting, Last Seen takes us inside the ongoing effort to bring back the jewels of the Gardner collection.”

You can listen to the podcast on iTunes, Google, or wherever you indulge your listening pleasure. Their website is extremely well done and documents information regarding the art, updated podcast episodes, and the background investigative work being done. You can also join Last Seen’s Facebook Page for tips and conversation.
