Writing by Lisa – An Invitation to Read

Along with the web design and marketing work I do here at Dragonfly Blu, I’ve also spent a number of years as an arts writer. Over the course of the last fourteen years, my words and images have been published in a variety of publications in the US and in Europe on subjects of art, design, and culture.

Since returning to the US from Sweden in 2017, I’ve been particularly proud of a few of my articles which were selected as cover story features. It has been my pleasure to work with these fantastic artists, galleries, and publications.

  • The Healing Power of Art. Cover Story: Venü Magazine, Winter edition 2019. The work of artist Lena Young. See the upcoming issue here. Download a pdf.
  • Artemisia’s Revenge. Venü Magazine, Winter edition 2019. Feature story on the life and work of Bourque artist Artemisia Gentileschi and its relevance to the MeToo movement. See the upcoming issue here or download a pdf.
  • Katie Swatland’s Alchemy Visions, Curiosity Without Bounds. Venü Magazine, Holiday Issue 2018.
In the winter of 2016, artist Katie Swatland covered all her clocks to eliminate the illusion of time, hung a “do not disturb” sign upon her studio door, and stepped into a journey of self imposed artistic isolation for 29 months. She re-emerged on June 11, 2018 finally feeling the need to share the fruits of her labor. She has quite a story. It was my honor to help her tell it.
  • Lanoue’s Grand Presentation – The Breath of a Dancer. Artscope Magazine – Cover Story: July/August 2018.
Lanoue Gallery presents the stunning photography of Deborah Ory and Ken Browar and their NYC Dance Project.
  • Zaria Formen, The Wonder of What We Stand to Lose. Venü Magazine – Cover Story: Winter Issue 2017/18.
Feature on artist Zaria Formen and her inspired large-scale pastel work from the arctic and antarctic.
  • Vaughan Oliver, Walk of Life. Artscope Magazine – Cover Story: September/October 2017.
Feature story on the work of legendary designer, Vaughan Oliver. Walking Backwards, on view at the Lesley University, Lunder Arts Center, features selections of work taken from designer Oliver’s extensive archive and reveals the work of a man who is an interdisciplinary connector, a unique art director of image and text, and a generous collaborator of practices.

I’m always looking for great stories to tell. Please contact me and let’s tell your story. Additional selections of my writing can be found in my writing portfolio at lisamikulski.com.
